Correcting Misinformation about Wild Equines
The New Mexico Mustang and Burro Association is committed to correcting this false impression that wild horses are, by nature, dangerous, violent, and unsuited for domestication. We do this by sharing a true picture of wild horses and, where possible, sharing our personal experience with wild horses in domestication.
Promoting Adoption of Captive Horses
New Mexico Mustang and Burro Association shares the American Mustang and Burro Association's mission of promoting adoptions of BLM horses and burros. Members mustangs share information, offer support and encouragement, and assist where possible, to facilitate mustang and burro adoptions.
Support Increasing Wild Horse and Burro Habitat
NMMBA supports increasing natural habitat on public lands for wild equines. Since 1971, 98% of the 54 million acres allotted to wild horses and burros has been taken from them and leased to livestock interests.
NMMBA supports restoration of wild horses to public lands, and enforcement of the Wild Horse and Burro Preservation Act.
Encourage Placement of Free Roaming Wild Horses on Private Lands
The NNMBA networks locally and nationally, to locate private lands suitable as free roaming environment for placement of “Sale Authority” horses. These are horses in BLM captivity that are above the legal age for adoption, which is 11. Since wild horses can live into their 30's, these prime age horses, which are sold for $25.00 without restriction and thus at high risk for slaughter, are ideal stock for free roaming herds in suitable environment.

We provide informational resources for the general public, to assist people through the adoption process and help to raise public awareness about Wild Horses and Burros.
NMMBA Membership
New Mexico Mustang and Burro Association welcomes everyone who supports our mission in the interest of bettering the circumstances of wild equines.
New Mexico Mustang and Burro Association welcomes horse owners, horseless horse lovers and wild life enthusiasts. Membership in NMMBA is available to New Mexico residents and other who choose to be active in the New Mexico area efforts on behalf of wild equines. In addition to joining the American Mustang and Burro Association, our parent organization, members are active locally, donating as they can, of their time, professional expertise and services, or money, in support of our efforts towards bettering the lives of wild equines.
